Celltrion announced on November 13 that all three of its biosimilar and biopharmaceutical products for autoimmune diseases and cancer have secured the number-one prescription positions across the European market, cementing its status as a global competitor.
According to recent data from IQVIA, a leading pharmaceutical market research firm, Celltrion’s flagship autoimmune drug “Remsima” (both intravenous and subcutaneous forms) maintained a dominant 69% market share in Europe as of the second quarter of this year. The product exhibited particularly strong performance in key EU countries such as the UK (87%) and Spain (80%). Moreover, the subcutaneous formulation “Remsima SC” alone recorded notable market shares of 34% in France and 29% in Germany.
Another autoimmune product, “Yuflyma” (adalimumab), achieved a 26% market share in Europe — marking its first-ever number-one ranking since launch. Despite being introduced three years later than competing products, Yuflyma’s robust clinical competitiveness and direct sales capabilities of local subsidiaries enabled rapid market expansion.
In the oncology segment, Celltrion’s “Vegzelma” (bevacizumab), used for metastatic colorectal and breast cancers, continues to lead with a 24% market share across Europe, primarily in the UK (55%) and France (34%). Additionally, “Herzuma” (trastuzumab) and “Truxima” (rituximab) maintained strong footholds in the biosimilar oncology market, with respective shares of 32% and 30%.
These successful results are largely attributed to the conversion of early wins in key European tenders into actual prescriptions. Celltrion’s direct distribution network of hospitals and pharmacies has become well-established, positively influencing the expansion within retail channels.
Building on this momentum, Celltrion plans to accelerate the launch of new products in the latter half of the year. Since September, the key treatment for chronic idiopathic urticaria, “Omlyclo” (Omalizumab), has begun to expand in various European countries. Additional launches, including ophthalmology drug “Idenzelt” (aplimisert) and osteoporosis treatment “Stoboclo-Ocenvelt” (denosumab), are scheduled within the year. The company aims to fully leverage its existing direct sales infrastructure to facilitate market entry and maximize synergies through portfolio expansion.
A Celltrion spokesperson remarked, “While Europe’s biosimilar market is highly competitive globally, our product expertise and direct sales system continue to deliver strong results. We will do our best to expand the market reach of our existing products and simultaneously improve profitability through new product launches.”
