Samsung E&A is accelerating its efforts to penetrate the global hydrogen market by introducing a new green hydrogen production solution.

On November 5th (local time), Samsung E&A announced the unveiling of its ‘CompassH2-P,’ a 100MW ion exchange membrane (PEM) based green hydrogen production system, at ADIPEC 2025 held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The company stated that this innovative solution was showcased on November 6th.

The ‘CompassH2-P’ is a follow-up model to the alkaline electrolysis (AEC) based ‘CompassH2-A’ introduced in May, and it is the industry’s first to apply a 100MW PEM process. It can produce hydrogen at high pressure (30 barg) and with ultra-high purity (99.9995%), while optimizing the placement of electrolysis stacks and auxiliary equipment to significantly reduce plant land requirements.

With this launch, Samsung E&A and Nel now possess both alkaline and PEM electrolysis technologies, enabling them to offer tailored hydrogen production solutions that suit various renewable energy characteristics and project conditions, enhancing their competitive edge in the market.

The ‘CompassH2’ series provides a comprehensive, integrated solution covering all stages from front-end engineering design (FEED) to engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), as well as quality assurance. Samsung E&A plans to actively target the global green hydrogen market by not only supplying equipment but also guaranteeing plant performance through differentiated services.

At the exhibition, Samsung E&A also shared collaboration achievements with global partners such as GIDARA, Johnson Matthey, and Honeywell UOP, while discussing opportunities for new ventures in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and other emerging sectors.

Recently, Samsung E&A has secured numerous projects including a low-carbon ammonia plant in the U.S., a SAF plant in Malaysia, a biodegradable plastic plant in the UAE, an eco-friendly LNG plant in Indonesia, and conceptual designs of LNG facilities in North America, demonstrating solid progress in eco-friendly energy transition initiatives.

A company representative stated, “The launch of CompassH2-P marks a significant milestone in strengthening our long-term partnership with Nel,” and added, “Leveraging our diverse technology portfolio, we plan to further accelerate our global hydrogen market expansion.”
