Qualcomm Technologies has expanded its Dragonwing portfolio with the launch of the Qualcomm Dragonwing Q-2390 and IQ-2390 processors, targeting broader adoption of on-device AI across consumer, commercial and industrial applications.

Announced ahead of IFA Berlin 2026, the highly integrated platforms combine computing, AI, vision, connectivity and security capabilities as demand grows for devices capable of processing data and making decisions locally.

The new processors are designed to reduce the cost and complexity of deploying edge intelligence, extending AI capabilities beyond high-end devices to a wider range of connected products used across homes, businesses, factories and urban infrastructure.

Q-2390 targets smart appliances, retail and consumer robotics

The Dragonwing Q-2390 is designed for commercial, enterprise and consumer IoT products that require advanced capabilities while operating under tight cost, power and size constraints.

The platform integrates application computing, on-device AI, camera and display support, LTE Cat 4 connectivity, GPS-based positioning, wired and wireless connectivity, security and a range of input/output capabilities.

Potential applications include point-of-sale systems, kiosks, access-control devices, smart appliances, smart agriculture equipment, consumer robots, fitness equipment and enterprise terminals.

By bringing these capabilities together on a single platform, Qualcomm aims to help device manufacturers simplify system design and reduce development costs while delivering more intelligent user experiences.

IQ-2390 brings AI deeper into industrial environments

The Dragonwing IQ-2390 is the first processor in Qualcomm's new IQ2 series, a family of industrial edge AI processors designed to extend intelligent computing into a broader range of industrial and embedded applications.

It complements the existing Dragonwing IQ10, IQX, IQ9, IQ8 and IQ6 families and targets compact edge systems requiring reliable operation, real-time responsiveness and long product lifecycles.

The IQ-2390 combines application processing, machine vision and AI acceleration with dual Gigabit Ethernet supporting Time-Sensitive Networking.

Qualcomm sees applications across human-machine interfaces, programmable logic controllers, industrial gateways, machine vision systems, building automation and energy management systems.

The processor is also designed for demanding industrial environments. It supports an operating temperature range from minus 30 degrees Celsius to 115 degrees Celsius and includes capabilities intended for environments exposed to vibration and shock.

That makes the platform suitable for deployment in factories, energy infrastructure and outdoor industrial environments, where conventional computing hardware can face challenging operating conditions.

Common architecture aims to simplify product development

Both the Q-2390 and IQ-2390 feature a quad-core Qualcomm Kryo CPU, Qualcomm Adreno 704 GPU and a real-time RISC-V microcontroller.

The platforms support Linux, Android and Zephyr OS, giving OEMs and developers flexibility to build products across different IoT and industrial environments.

Qualcomm said the integrated architecture could help manufacturers reduce component costs, board space and system integration complexity while shortening development cycles for AI-enabled connected devices.

Jeff Arnold, vice president and general manager of automotive telematics, consumer and connectivity, and industrial and embedded IoT at Qualcomm Technologies, said AI is fundamentally changing how connected devices are designed and built, but cost, complexity and integration remain barriers for many product categories.

“With the Dragonwing Q-2390 and IQ-2390 processors, we can extend intelligence to a much broader range of devices, from retail systems, smart appliances and consumer robotics to industrial controllers, machine vision systems and critical infrastructure,” Arnold said.

The introduction of the two processors reflects Qualcomm's broader push to move AI processing closer to where data is generated, expanding edge intelligence across both everyday connected devices and industrial systems.
