Taihan Cable & Solution has kicked off the new year with a major contract win, continuing its growth momentum in the North American power market.
The company announced on January 7 that its U.S. subsidiary, T.E.USA, has secured an order for a 230-kilovolt ultra-high-voltage transmission network project in the United States. The contract is valued at approximately KRW 100 billion.
The project involves the construction of a new 230kV transmission line in the Riverside area of Southern California. It is a key power infrastructure initiative aimed at responding to rising electricity demand in the region while strengthening grid stability to ensure reliable power supply in the event of natural disasters or unexpected outages.
Taihan Cable will execute the project on a full turnkey basis, covering the entire process from design and manufacturing to construction, connection, testing, and commissioning. This delivery model requires advanced technical expertise, strong engineering capabilities, and systematic project management, and Taihan Cable was selected as the final contractor in recognition of its comprehensive execution capabilities amid global competition.
The contract win is widely seen as a result of the company’s proven technology and quality reliability, built through the successful delivery of multiple power grid projects in the United States. Taihan Cable has previously secured all 500kV HVAC transmission projects in the U.S. and has continued to demonstrate competitiveness by participating in high-difficulty projects, including 320kV HVDC transmission systems and the replacement of aging power grids in major metropolitan areas.
A Taihan Cable official said the company aims to maintain the upward trend in its order backlog, which reached KRW 3.4 trillion last year, starting with this early-year contract. The official added that as large-scale investments in U.S. grid modernization and power infrastructure accelerate, Taihan Cable plans to actively leverage its local subsidiaries and branch network to expand projects nationwide and further strengthen its market position.
Industry sources note that annual electricity consumption in the United States is projected to rise sharply, driven by advances in AI technologies and the rapid expansion of data centers. Power demand is expected to increase from around 4,100 terawatt-hours in 2024 to more than 5,000 terawatt-hours by 2030, fueling growing demand for new transmission networks and the replacement of aging facilities. Against this backdrop, Taihan Cable plans to accelerate its North American expansion by capitalizing on its differentiated technological capabilities.
