Celltrion has been ranked among the top 1% of global companies in the biotechnology sector in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), highlighting its strong ESG performance.
The company announced on April 15 that it was included in the ‘Top 1%’ category in the biotechnology sector, while also being named an ‘Industry Mover’ for achieving one of the most significant year-over-year improvements in ESG performance.
The CSA evaluates more than 12,000 companies worldwide across environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria and is considered one of the most authoritative global sustainability benchmarks. Top-performing companies are listed in The Sustainability Yearbook, with rankings categorized into the top 1%, 5%, and 10% by industry.
Celltrion advanced from the top 5% last year to the top 1% this year, demonstrating enhanced ESG competitiveness among global biotechnology firms.
The company has been implementing ESG-focused strategies under its vision of building a sustainable healthcare ecosystem.
In the environmental domain, Celltrion is pursuing its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2045, while managing greenhouse gas emissions and expanding renewable energy usage. It has also broadened lifecycle assessments (LCA) across its biosimilar products to reduce environmental impact.
On the social front, the company supports startup growth through open innovation programs and contributes to the development of the biotechnology ecosystem. It also engages in social contribution activities, including fundraising initiatives to support healthcare improvements in developing countries.
In governance, Celltrion has strengthened board independence by introducing a lead independent director system and has enhanced shareholder value through dividends and share buybacks.
A company official stated that the recognition reflects Celltrion’s ESG achievements and ongoing improvement efforts, adding that the company will continue to reinforce its sustainable growth foundation.
