Samsung Electronics has climbed into the world’s top 10 listed companies by market capitalization, overtaking Meta Platforms amid growing investor optimism over the artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor boom.
According to global market capitalization tracking website CompaniesMarketCap, Samsung Electronics’ market value rose to approximately $1.535 trillion on June 2 after its shares gained 1.29% during intraday trading.
The increase pushed Samsung Electronics up to 10th place globally, surpassing Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, whose market capitalization stood at around $1.524 trillion.
Samsung is now within striking distance of Tesla, currently ranked ninth with a market capitalization of about $1.561 trillion. The gap between the two companies has narrowed to roughly $26 billion, raising the possibility of further ranking changes if Samsung’s stock rally continues.
The latest gains come as global investors pour into AI-related semiconductor stocks amid surging demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips used in AI accelerators and data centers.
Samsung Electronics has recently drawn attention by unveiling its next-generation HBM4E and HBM5 technologies, strengthening expectations that the company could expand its role in Nvidia’s AI supply chain and regain momentum in the advanced memory market.
Market analysts say Samsung’s ability to integrate memory chips, foundry manufacturing, logic semiconductors, and advanced packaging technologies is becoming an increasingly important competitive advantage in the AI era.
Nvidia remains the world’s most valuable listed company with a market capitalization of approximately $5.43 trillion, followed by Alphabet, Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), Broadcom, and Saudi Aramco currently rank ahead of Samsung Electronics in the global market capitalization standings.
Meanwhile, SK hynix slipped one position to 13th place after its shares fell 2.62%, reducing its market value to approximately $1.08 trillion, according to CompaniesMarketCap data.
Despite short-term fluctuations, analysts expect both Samsung Electronics and SK hynix to remain among the biggest beneficiaries of the global AI infrastructure expansion as demand for advanced memory semiconductors continues to rise.
Industry observers say the growing influence of Korean semiconductor companies reflects a broader shift in global capital markets toward AI-driven technology firms, with memory chips emerging as one of the most critical components in next-generation computing systems.
