As production and logistics organizations face increasing order volumes and workforce shortages, many are expanding their use of automated transport systems. For these systems to operate efficiently, both vehicle design and charging infrastructure play a role. Patika Robotics, a Turkey-based developer of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), is integrating inductive charging technology from Wiferion into its transport platforms as part of an effort to streamline warehouse operations.

Development of Patika Robotics and Its AMR Systems

Founded in 2018 by a group of five engineers, Patika Robotics began with the development of its first autonomous vehicle. The company has since grown to 15 employees and produces AMRs with payload capacities of up to four tons for applications in sectors such as automotive, textiles, energy storage, and metal processing.

Patika operates manufacturing in Sakarya, Turkey, and recently opened an additional facility in Neuwied, Germany, to support European customers. The expansion coincides with the company’s activities as a supplier to a major German corporation.

Navigation Without Infrastructure Modifications

Patika’s PTK1350 AMR differs from some automated guided vehicles that require magnetic strips or markers for navigation. The robot uses onboard sensors and software to move through facilities, including narrow aisles, without structural adjustments. According to the company, this approach aims to reduce installation time and minimize changes to existing warehouse layouts.

Inductive Charging for AMR Operations

To support continuous operation, the PTK1350 uses Wiferion’s etaLINK 3000 inductive charging system. Unlike conductive chargers, inductive pads can be installed at selected points in the facility without major construction work. Vehicles can charge opportunistically during brief process pauses, reducing downtime.

The system transfers power without exposed electrical contacts, addressing safety considerations associated with open charging points. Wiferion reports an efficiency of approximately 93% and omnidirectional approach capability, which helps accommodate different vehicle models.

AMR Features and Coordination Software

The PTK1350 incorporates cameras, scanners, and onboard navigation software to operate in environments with dynamic obstacles, doors, or elevators. Its lightweight aluminum chassis is designed to reduce energy consumption, and the company states that the vehicle can operate for at least eight hours before requiring additional charging.

Patika also provides fleet-management software that monitors battery levels, job assignments, and robot status. The interface allows operators to adjust routes and track system performance.

Integration of Both Systems in Intralogistics Settings

The combination of autonomous transport systems and inductive charging is intended to support continuous operation in warehouses and production facilities. Both Patika’s AMR and Wiferion’s charging platform are designed to be non-invasive and require limited maintenance, which may simplify deployment for some organizations.

Patika representatives note that automation can reallocate manual transport tasks to other operational areas, while inductive charging aims to maintain uptime without extensive infrastructure modifications.
