Zodia Custody has received a Payment Institution licence from Luxembourg’s financial regulator, allowing the company to expand its regulated stablecoin custody and transfer services across the European Union as institutional demand for digital asset infrastructure continues to develop.
The Luxembourg-based entity, Zodia Custody (Europe) S.A., said on June 9 that the licence was granted by the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF). The approval enables the company to provide custody and transfer services for Electronic Money Tokens, commonly referred to as stablecoins.
The licence adds to Zodia Custody’s existing Crypto-Asset Service Provider authorisation under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation, which the company received in December 2025. Together, the two approvals allow Zodia Custody to support both crypto-asset safekeeping and regulated stablecoin transfer functions within the EU framework.
The development comes as stablecoins move beyond crypto trading venues and become increasingly relevant to settlement, liquidity management and treasury operations. For institutional investors, banks and asset managers, the ability to manage crypto assets and stablecoin transfers through regulated service providers is becoming a more important part of digital finance infrastructure.
Ami Nagata, Managing Director, Luxembourg at Zodia Custody Europe, said institutional adoption of crypto assets requires infrastructure that meets regulatory and operational standards. She said the combination of the Payment Institution licence and MiCA CASP authorisation gives clients greater certainty when managing Electronic Money Tokens and crypto assets in Europe.
The approval also reflects the broader regulatory shift taking place in Europe, where digital asset service providers are moving from fragmented national arrangements toward a more unified operating framework under MiCA. As the market matures, custody, transfer, compliance and counterparty-risk management are becoming central issues for institutions entering the sector.
Zodia Custody said the Luxembourg licence is part of its wider regulatory expansion. The company also holds authorisations or permissions in markets including the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia.
Zodia Custody is backed by shareholders and investors including Standard Chartered, Northern Trust, SBI Holdings, National Australia Bank and Emirates NBD. The company focuses on digital asset custody infrastructure for institutional clients.
