POSCO Group is accelerating its artificial intelligence transformation (AX) across its operations by investing in robotics automation solutions company Brills.
The investment totals 7 billion won (approximately $5.3 million), combining 5 billion won from POSCO Holdings’ strategic fund and 2 billion won from its corporate venture capital (CVC) fund. Through this partnership, POSCO aims to integrate its extensive manufacturing expertise with Brills’ robot design and control technologies to move beyond conventional automation and develop intelligent production systems.
The two companies plan to jointly develop advanced automation operation systems and fast-track the realization of “intelligent factories.”
An intelligent factory represents an evolution of the traditional smart factory, enabling autonomous manufacturing environments where humans, artificial intelligence, and robots collaborate seamlessly. POSCO Group intends to prioritize the deployment of robots in high-risk or labor-intensive processes to simultaneously enhance workplace safety and productivity.
POSCO has been steadily expanding its robotics ecosystem through investments in promising companies via venture funds and POSCO Tech Investment. Its portfolio includes quadruped robot developer Aidin Robotics, robotic hand specialist Tesollo, collaborative robot company Neuromeka, and industrial humanoid robotics firm Persona AI, with a cumulative investment of 19 billion won.
Going forward, POSCO plans to broaden the adoption of AI- and robotics-based autonomous processes across the group, further scaling intelligent factory initiatives and accelerating its AX transformation.
Founded in 2015, Brills is a Korea-based automation solutions provider with around 110 patents and is recognized as a leading system integration (SI) company. It has supplied automation technologies to major industrial players such as Hyundai Motor and SK ecoplant, and is preparing for a KOSDAQ listing within the year.
