KT is strengthening its supply chain for key media device chipsets while expanding technology cooperation in artificial intelligence, as semiconductor supply stability becomes increasingly important to media service operators.
KT said on Sept. 13 that it signed a memorandum of understanding with global fabless semiconductor company Amlogic during IBC 2026, held from Sept. 11 to 14 at RAI Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
Headquartered in Mountain View, California, Amlogic has worked with KT for years in the media sector. The two companies previously collaborated on the development of what KT described as the world’s first 8K Android TV set-top box.
Securing Chipset Supply and Expanding AI Cooperation
Under the agreement, KT and Amlogic will work to ensure a stable supply of key chipsets used in KT Group’s media devices and explore ways to improve supply chain efficiency.
The partnership comes as global semiconductor supply chains face continued uncertainty and media devices increasingly require more advanced computing capabilities.
For KT, securing key components is important not only for device production but also for maintaining the stability and continuity of its media services. A more predictable chipset supply could also help KT’s device manufacturing partners operate with greater stability.
The two companies plan to extend their cooperation beyond system-on-chip, or SoC, supply. They will also work together on technologies designed to enhance AI functions and services for KT’s media devices.
As set-top boxes and other media devices evolve from simple content receivers into AI-enabled service platforms, chipset performance and supply stability are becoming increasingly important factors in the media business.
KT Brings Eight Partners to IBC 2026
KT is also using IBC 2026 to help Korean small and medium-sized companies reach overseas markets.
The company is operating the “KT Global Shared Growth Pavilion” with eight media technology partners. KT launched the program in 2013 to help partner companies overcome the limits of the domestic market and expand their businesses globally.
This year, the pavilion was jointly established with South Korea’s Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korea Foundation for Cooperation of Large & Small Business, Rural Affairs after being selected for a government-backed overseas expansion program.
KOTRA’s Amsterdam office is also providing personnel to identify prospective buyers and arrange business meetings during the exhibition.
The eight participating companies are Marsys, Ohsung Electronics, Nota AI, Castis, Lunart, PYLON, StealCut and XL8 AI.
Their technologies range from 8K Android TV set-top boxes and voice-recognition remote controls to on-device AI agent models, OTT and FAST platform solutions, AI-powered video editing, deepfake detection and media-focused subtitle generation and editing platforms.
European Expansion Continues at ECOC 2026
KT plans to continue its joint overseas exhibition program later this month at ECOC 2026, a major optical communications event scheduled to take place in Spain from Sept. 21 to 23.
Five partner companies — NWC, Jessicom, Wooriro, Fira Photonics and Soltech Infonet — will participate with KT, presenting technologies including fire-monitoring systems using optical cables, components for AI and data centers, quantum cryptography components and industrial optical networking solutions.
KT is seeking to turn participation in major international exhibitions into actual export opportunities by connecting its partners directly with potential overseas customers.
In 2025, KT participated in IBC, MWC and ECOC with 18 partner companies and said the companies secured more than 180 billion won ($130 million) in export contracts through the three exhibitions.
“The agreement with a global chipset company will strengthen the competitiveness of our media device chipset supply chain and support the stable business operations of our partners,” said Kwon Hye-jin, executive vice president and head of KT’s SCM Office.
“We will continue to develop public-private cooperation models that enable large companies and SMEs to enter overseas markets and grow together, while helping our partners turn their technologies and products into tangible opportunities with global buyers,” Kwon added.
