SK Telecom said it successfully maintained stable network performance during the peak cherry blossom festival season by leveraging artificial intelligence (AI)-based network management technologies.
The company announced on April 8 that it applied its AI-driven core network control systems to major festival areas, including Seokchon Lake and Yeouido, ensuring uninterrupted communication services throughout the event period, which ran until April 7.
Mobile data traffic surged significantly during the festival. Over the weekend, total data usage in the areas reached 44.9 terabytes, about 1.5 times higher than the previous weekend. On Saturday, traffic peaked at 15.91TB in Seokchon Lake and 7.3TB in Yeouido, while Yeouido recorded even higher usage on Sunday at 8.5TB.
User behavior data showed that visitors aged 50 and older accounted for the largest share of attendees at 31%, but users in their 20s generated the highest data consumption at 29%. There was no significant difference in usage between male and female users. The most-used applications included YouTube, Instagram, Naver, and Facebook.
The stable network performance was supported by SK Telecom’s AI-based network monitoring system, SPIDER, which integrates and manages equipment across the core network. The system analyzes alarms and statistical data in real time to detect anomalies in advance and suggests rapid response measures, improving both operational efficiency and network stability.
In addition, the company deployed its AI-powered network optimization solution, A-One (Access All-in-One), to forecast traffic surges and proactively optimize network conditions. The combined use of these systems enabled real-time monitoring and preemptive 대응, allowing SK Telecom to deliver consistent service quality even in high-density environments.
SK Telecom said it plans to further enhance its AI-based autonomous network technologies to ensure seamless connectivity across a wide range of scenarios.
