Workforce Verification links document checks, biometric liveness and background screening to existing identity and HR systems

Sumsub said in London on September 15 that it has launched Workforce Verification, a service designed to confirm an employee’s identity before high-risk account actions are approved. The system can require a live identity and biometric check during password resets, privilege changes and suspicious login attempts.
The service integrates with existing identity and access management (IAM) and human resources platforms. It also verifies new employees and contractors during onboarding and can repeat identity checks later when predefined risk signals are detected.

Credentials do not confirm the person behind them

Corporate access systems typically confirm whether a user possesses a valid password or multifactor authentication token. Stolen credentials, manipulated identities and social-engineering attacks can therefore give an unauthorized person access to sensitive systems even when established authentication requirements appear to have been met.

Sumsub said its technology operates as an additional policy layer over existing IT infrastructure. A government-issued identity document is checked when a new employee joins, creating an identity baseline that can be used for later verification.

If an identity-management system flags a password recovery request, an increase in account privileges or an unusual login, the platform initiates an additional check. This combines biometric liveness testing with passive risk indicators before access is granted.

“IAM systems manage access, but a valid credential only proves possession, not identity,” said Andrew Novoselsky, chief product officer at Sumsub. “In an enterprise setting, a compromised employee account costs the keys to critical business operations.”

Novoselsky said the service is designed to introduce identity verification at high-risk moments without requiring companies to replace their existing identity-management or HR systems.

Verification extends beyond employee onboarding

The platform also screens prospective employees and contractors before they receive access to corporate systems. This is intended to reduce the risk of applicants using borrowed, manipulated or synthetic identities to pass conventional recruitment and background checks.

Sumsub said continuous verification could reduce reliance on security questions and manual help-desk procedures during account recovery. The company also expects the system to help protect internal data and intellectual property by identifying unauthorized users before they obtain or expand system access.

The company claims its deepfake-detection technology can identify manipulated material with an efficiency rate of up to 99.98%. It said the system is supported by a fraud-prevention network containing more than 1.5 billion enriched identity records and combines automated background screening with configurable document checks. These performance figures were provided by Sumsub and were not independently verified.

Sumsub provides identity and business verification, fraud prevention, monitoring and risk-management technology. Workforce Verification extends those services into employee identity management as companies face growing risks from stolen credentials, artificial intelligence-generated impersonation and social engineering.
