LG Chem is stepping up its push into Europe’s high-performance materials market, targeting emerging industries such as artificial intelligence data centers and robotics alongside its established automotive business.
The South Korean chemical company said Tuesday that it will showcase a range of next-generation engineering materials at Fakuma 2026, a major plastics industry trade fair taking place in Friedrichshafen, Germany, from Oct. 12 to 16.
LG Chem plans to use the event to highlight material solutions designed for automotive, electrical and electronic applications, as well as AI data centers, robotics and high-performance breathable films.
Rather than focusing solely on displaying individual products, the company will emphasize customized solutions aimed at addressing specific challenges faced by industrial customers. Its approximately 70-square-meter exhibition space will be organized around three themes: cost efficiency, sustainability and innovation.
Under the cost-efficiency theme, LG Chem will present paint-free materials for automotive applications and solutions designed to replace metal components. Such materials can help manufacturers reduce vehicle weight and improve production efficiency.
The sustainability section will feature bio-based materials and low-carbon solutions, reflecting growing demand in Europe for products that can help manufacturers meet increasingly stringent environmental requirements.
LG Chem will also highlight advanced engineering plastics developed for AI data centers and robotics. Engineering plastics are increasingly being used as alternatives to metal because they can contribute to lighter components and improved energy efficiency while offering high levels of durability and performance.
Europe is a key target market for these materials as the region accelerates vehicle electrification and the transition toward more environmentally sustainable manufacturing. LG Chem aims to capitalize on rising demand for lightweight, high-performance materials by presenting solutions tailored to emerging industrial applications.
The company will also use the exhibition to deepen technical cooperation with customers. More than half of its booth will be dedicated to meeting areas where LG Chem plans to hold technical consultations and discuss potential joint development projects.
The company will further introduce its proprietary SISO solution, which allows customers to predict and verify material performance during the product design stage. LG Chem expects the platform to help customers evaluate materials earlier in the development process and accelerate collaboration.
“Customers are looking for more than materials themselves; they need next-generation solutions that can turn future possibilities into reality,” said Lee Chang-hyun, head of LG Chem’s Engineering Materials Business. “We will stay ahead of customer needs and propose differentiated material solutions that create new growth opportunities and value.”
Through its participation in Fakuma 2026, LG Chem aims to strengthen its presence in Europe while expanding partnerships across automotive, electronics, AI infrastructure and robotics markets.
