Swedish solar energy company Midsummer announced that it has received a follow-up order worth more than SEK 236 million, equivalent to approximately EUR 22 million or USD 25.5 million, from a Swedish industrial and defense group. The order covers machinery for a solar cell factory that will produce thin-film solar cells.
According to the company, the order includes Midsummer’s proprietary DUO production line for manufacturing thin-film solar cells. While peripheral equipment is not included, the contract covers installation, service, and training for personnel at the local factory. Midsummer stated that this is the largest single order in the company’s history. Most of the order value is expected to be recognized as revenue during 2026.
The new order follows an earlier contract awarded in May of last year for machinery equipment. That equipment was manufactured in Sweden during the autumn and has recently reached its final destination. The company said production at the new factory is expected to be scaled up in stages over the coming years, in line with established demand.
Commenting on the order, Midsummer CEO Eric Jaremalm said the company has received encouraging indications from the market regarding the appeal of its solar panels. He added that the ongoing orders provide practical experience and serve as validation of the company’s strategy and its ability to manage large-scale projects. Midsummer’s stated goal is to expand its offering of complete solar cell factories to additional customers worldwide.
Midsummer DUO is described by the company as a turnkey production system designed for the large-scale manufacture of durable, flexible, and cadmium-free thin-film solar cells based on CIGS technology. The system is intended to support low carbon dioxide emissions, high production capacity, operational reliability, and efficient use of materials. Midsummer states that the DUO platform has become the most widely used production system globally for flexible thin-film solar cells.
