Coupang is expanding the role of artificial intelligence across its shopping platform, introducing a suite of AI-powered features designed to simplify how customers discover, evaluate and purchase products.
The company said Thursday that it has integrated AI into multiple stages of the online shopping journey, moving beyond traditional keyword searches and chatbot interactions. Instead, its latest system proactively analyzes product information and presents key insights before customers need to ask, aiming to make purchasing decisions faster and more intuitive.
Among the newly enhanced features is an AI-generated product summary that highlights the most important information on a product page. Rather than simply listing specifications, the technology identifies features that are likely to matter most based on product type and expected customer needs, helping shoppers quickly understand a product's strengths.
Coupang has also introduced AI-generated product highlights that appear directly beneath product titles, allowing users to review essential selling points without navigating through lengthy product descriptions.
For categories that typically require extensive comparison—such as refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines and furniture—the company has rolled out AI-powered infographics across Rocket Delivery products. The visual summaries convert complex technical specifications into easy-to-understand graphics. For example, instead of displaying only a washing machine's capacity, the system illustrates practical information such as the estimated number of clothing items it can wash or the recommended household size.
Another AI feature analyzes customer reviews and automatically summarizes the most frequently mentioned advantages and disadvantages. The goal is to reduce the time shoppers spend reading hundreds of individual reviews while still providing a balanced overview of customer sentiment.
Earlier this year, Coupang also introduced an AI-based product comparison service for electronics and home appliances. Unlike conversational AI systems that require users to manually request comparisons, Coupang's platform automatically suggests relevant alternatives as customers browse. The AI compares products based on factors such as performance, storage capacity, price and intended use, presenting the differences in a concise and accessible format.
Industry observers view the initiative as part of a broader transformation taking place across the global e-commerce sector. As generative AI technologies mature, online retailers are increasingly competing on customer experience rather than solely on pricing or delivery speed.
Market analysts say the next phase of digital commerce will likely be defined by AI's ability to reduce information overload and guide purchasing decisions through personalized recommendations, automated comparisons and contextual insights.
The shift reflects a growing trend from "search-based shopping" toward "discovery-driven shopping," where AI anticipates customer needs and delivers relevant information before users actively seek it.
Coupang said it plans to continue expanding AI capabilities throughout its product detail pages and shopping ecosystem.
"Our goal is to create the most convenient shopping experience possible by applying AI across the customer journey," a company spokesperson said. "We will continue introducing customer-centric technologies that help shoppers make informed decisions quickly and effortlessly."
The latest rollout underscores how artificial intelligence is becoming a strategic differentiator in e-commerce, with platforms increasingly investing in AI-driven personalization and decision-support tools to strengthen customer engagement and loyalty.
