Samsung Electronics has supplied its private 5G network solutions to Hana Financial Group’s new headquarters in Cheongna, Incheon, marking the first deployment of its kind in Korea’s financial sector.
The project, carried out in partnership with SK Telecom, covers 16 floors of Hana Financial Group’s headquarters and supports multiple affiliates and thousands of employees. By replacing a conventional wired office environment with private 5G connectivity, the new smart office enables employees to work seamlessly across desks, meeting rooms and collaborative spaces.
Employees can use 5G-enabled laptops, tablets and other mobile devices to access internal systems without being tied to fixed workstations. The wireless infrastructure also gives Hana Financial Group greater flexibility in managing office space while reducing the time and resources required for network reconfiguration when workspaces are rearranged.
Security was a key consideration in the deployment. Financial institutions manage highly sensitive information, including customer financial and credit data, and are subject to strict network separation requirements.
To address these requirements, the smart office incorporates multiple layers of protection, including data encryption, firewalls, distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) protection and USIM-based authentication. Access is restricted to authorized users and registered devices, while the private 5G network remains separated from external communications networks.
Samsung provided an end-to-end private 5G platform for the project, including radios, baseband equipment and a cloud-native core. The network operates on the 4.7GHz mid-band spectrum designated for private 5G networks in Korea.
The deployment also makes use of Samsung’s 5G Standalone (SA) core and network slicing technology. The technology allows a single physical network to be divided into multiple virtual networks, enabling Hana Financial Group’s affiliates to operate separate network environments according to their individual security policies and business requirements.
The project highlights the growing role of private 5G as enterprises seek to combine greater workplace mobility with stringent security requirements. For financial institutions in particular, the technology can provide wireless connectivity without compromising the network isolation needed to protect sensitive corporate and customer data.
The infrastructure is also designed to support Hana Financial Group’s broader adoption of artificial intelligence and data-driven services. By providing secure and reliable access to internal systems across different workspaces, the network can serve as a foundation for integrating AI into everyday business operations.
“Employees need a network that provides secure and reliable access to internal systems and data from anywhere if AI and data are to be widely used in day-to-day work,” said Kim Goo-Young, Head of Enterprise Business Office at SK Telecom. “This smart office demonstrates how secure network infrastructure can support new ways of working in the financial sector.”
Samsung is also expanding its private network portfolio across industries including manufacturing, finance, construction and IT. Its network business spans radio access network (RAN) equipment, virtualized RAN, Open RAN, AI RAN, cloud-native cores and private network solutions.
Angelo Jeongho Park, Executive Vice President and Head of Strategic Sales at Samsung Electronics’ Networks Business, said the Hana Financial Group deployment demonstrates the company’s ability to provide private 5G networks for industries with demanding security requirements.
“By combining advanced network technologies with our experience across diverse industries, we aim to provide secure and customized connectivity while helping enterprises adopt AI-driven innovations,” Park said.
