HJ Heavy Industries (HJHI) has reclaimed the top position among construction companies in Busan for the first time in nine years, underscoring its renewed competitiveness in infrastructure development and large-scale construction projects.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 2026 Construction Capability Evaluation, HJ Heavy Industries recorded a construction capability value of KRW 1.46 trillion, ranking first in the Busan metropolitan area and 31st nationwide, up three places from the previous year.
The annual Construction Capability Evaluation is one of Korea's most widely recognized indicators of a construction company's competitiveness. It assesses firms based on construction performance, financial stability, technical expertise, and credibility, and serves as an important benchmark for public project bidding and contractor selection.
HJ Heavy Industries' return to the top reflects the company's strong performance across infrastructure, civil engineering, and urban redevelopment projects, as well as its continued investment in technological capabilities.
The company has maintained a solid presence in major public infrastructure sectors, including ports, airports, roads, and other large-scale civil engineering projects. Its experience in complex engineering works has enabled it to remain competitive despite a challenging domestic construction market.
In recent years, HJ Heavy Industries has also expanded its presence in urban redevelopment and reconstruction projects while strengthening its portfolio in environmentally sustainable construction and public infrastructure.
Beyond construction, the company continues to reinforce its shipbuilding business, particularly in naval vessels, special-purpose ships, and environmentally friendly vessels. Leveraging decades of engineering expertise, HJ Heavy Industries is pursuing balanced growth through its dual pillars of construction and shipbuilding.
Industry observers believe the company's outlook remains positive as Korea increases investment in AI-related infrastructure, ports, logistics facilities, and transportation networks. Demand for advanced civil engineering and public infrastructure projects is expected to provide additional growth opportunities for experienced contractors such as HJ Heavy Industries.
The latest ranking is viewed as more than a symbolic achievement. It reflects HJ Heavy Industries' successful efforts to strengthen its competitive position and re-establish itself as Busan's leading construction company while laying the foundation for sustainable long-term growth in both construction and shipbuilding.
