LS Cable & System is stepping up its push into Europe’s offshore wind market by expanding beyond subsea cable manufacturing to offer an integrated range of services spanning installation, construction and maintenance.

The Korean cable maker said Wednesday that it will participate in WindEnergy Hamburg 2026, held in Hamburg, Germany, from Sept. 22 to 25, where it will showcase its offshore wind power grid solutions.

WindEnergy Hamburg is one of the world’s largest wind energy trade shows, held every two years in Germany. The event brings together major players across the global wind industry, including offshore wind developers, power companies, turbine manufacturers and cable suppliers.

At this year’s exhibition, LS Cable & System is presenting a comprehensive portfolio designed to connect offshore wind turbines with onshore power grids. The lineup covers medium-voltage cables for wind turbines, subsea cables connecting individual turbines and high-voltage subsea cables that transmit electricity to land.

A key focus is the company’s high-voltage direct current, or HVDC, technology. LS Cable & System is showcasing its 525-kV, 80-degree Celsius-class HVDC subsea cable, based on technology that the company says is commercially deployed at the 500-kV level.

The cable can increase transmission capacity by up to 25% compared with conventional 70-degree Celsius-class products. The technology is designed to meet the growing demand for high-capacity, long-distance transmission as offshore wind farms become larger and are increasingly located farther from shore.

LS Cable & System is also strengthening its project execution capabilities through cooperation with LS Marine Solution. The two companies are building an integrated business model covering the entire subsea cable value chain, from manufacturing and transportation to installation, inspection and maintenance.

LS Marine Solution is building a 13,000-ton-class large-scale HVDC cable-laying vessel, scheduled to enter service in 2028. The vessel is expected to enhance the group’s ability to respond to large offshore wind and subsea transmission projects in Europe and other global markets.

The company is also highlighting low-carbon cable solutions designed to address Europe’s increasingly stringent environmental requirements. LS Cable & System plans to apply recycled copper and low-carbon and recycled aluminum to reduce carbon emissions associated with raw materials and better meet the sustainability requirements of European offshore wind projects.

Europe has emerged as a key market for LS Cable & System as governments and utilities accelerate offshore wind development while simultaneously expanding transmission infrastructure. The company is seeking to strengthen its position by combining HVDC technology with subsea installation and maintenance capabilities rather than competing solely as a cable supplier.

“Europe is a key market for LS Cable & System, including our securing of the largest supply contract in the TenneT project, the largest HVDC project in Europe,” an LS Cable & System official said. “We will continue to expand our business based on our HVDC technology and subsea installation capabilities.”
