Samsung Heavy Industries has secured a new order for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier from an Oceania-based shipowner, further strengthening its orderbook for the year.
The company announced on March 20 that it has signed a contract worth KRW 377.9 billion (approximately $280 million) to build one LNG carrier. The vessel is scheduled for delivery by April 2029.
With this latest deal, Samsung Heavy Industries’ cumulative orders for the year have reached a total of 12 vessels worth $2.4 billion, achieving 17% of its annual order target of $13.9 billion.
By vessel type, the company has secured orders for four LNG carriers, two ethane carriers, two container ships, and four crude oil tankers so far this year.
A company official stated that Samsung Heavy Industries is maintaining a selective order strategy focused on high value-added vessels while responding flexibly to changing market conditions.
