Chey Tae-won chairman of SK Group, met with Jensen Huang chief executive officer of NVIDIA, in Taipei to discuss cooperation on artificial intelligence (AI) memory technologies, underscoring the growing strategic alliance between the two companies in the rapidly expanding AI semiconductor market.

SK hynix said on Monday that the meeting took place in Taiwan and included key executives from both sides, including SK hynix CEO Kwak Noh-jung. Photos released through the company’s social media channels showed the executives gathered together during the event.

The meeting comes as demand for AI infrastructure continues to accelerate worldwide, driving intense competition for high-bandwidth memory (HBM), a critical component used in AI accelerators. SK hynix has emerged as one of NVIDIA’s main HBM suppliers, benefiting from the explosive growth of generative AI services and data center investments.

Industry observers believe the latest meeting reflects efforts by both companies to strengthen long-term cooperation across next-generation AI memory and advanced packaging technologies. As AI chip performance requirements continue to rise, stable supply chains for high-performance memory have become increasingly important for global technology companies.

SK hynix described the gathering as a meaningful occasion to celebrate achievements made together in the AI memory sector and to reaffirm a shared vision for the future of AI infrastructure.

Jensen Huang also highlighted the importance of SK hynix during an event with Korean industry officials in Taiwan. He cited performance, quality, reliability and supply capability as key strengths in the HBM market and said NVIDIA is working “very closely” with SK hynix.

The two companies have significantly expanded their cooperation in recent years as NVIDIA’s AI accelerator business has rapidly grown. HBM plays a crucial role in improving AI processing speed and efficiency, but limited production capacity and high manufacturing complexity have led to ongoing supply shortages across the industry.

Market analysts expect SK hynix to maintain a strong position in the global AI memory market as demand for advanced HBM products continues to rise alongside the expansion of hyperscale AI data centers.

Meanwhile, Jensen Huang is reportedly expected to visit South Korea following his Taiwan schedule, raising speculation that additional meetings with Chey Tae-won and SK executives could take place in the coming days.
