PMDA approval strengthens regulatory foundation as AVIEW CAC enters Japanese market
Company advances “One CT, Multi-Disease” strategy across lung and cardiovascular risk assessment

Coreline Soft is accelerating the expansion of its chest CT-based AI business in Japan, moving beyond lung nodule detection toward a broader multi-disease analysis portfolio.

The Korean medical AI company recently received approval from Japan’s Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) for its proprietary lung nodule detection solution, AVIEW Lung Nodule CAD. It is now expanding its Japanese portfolio with AVIEW CAC, an AI solution for coronary artery calcium analysis.

Coreline Soft has signed a supply agreement with M3 AI for AVIEW CAC, which automatically detects and quantifies coronary artery calcification from chest CT images to provide information for cardiovascular risk assessment.

The technology is closely aligned with the company’s opportunistic screening strategy, which seeks to extract additional clinically relevant information from medical images that have already been acquired for another purpose.

A chest CT performed primarily to examine the lungs, for example, can also contain information related to emphysema, interstitial lung disease and coronary artery calcification. AI can analyze and structure these findings without requiring an additional CT scan.

Building on a Network of Around 80 Japanese Hospitals

The AVIEW CAC agreement represents more than the addition of another product to Coreline Soft’s Japanese portfolio.

The company acquired assets related to VUNO Med-LungCT last year, securing an existing customer and distribution base in Japan. It has since expanded its local customer network to around 80 medical institutions while building sales channels with partners including M3 AI and Konica Minolta.

Coreline Soft is now moving from operating acquired products toward introducing its own AVIEW portfolio into that established network.

The recent PMDA approval of AVIEW Lung Nodule CAD provides a regulatory foundation for the company’s proprietary technology in Japan. The addition of AVIEW CAC further broadens its business from lung nodule detection toward comprehensive chest CT analysis.

M3 AI supports the commercialization and distribution of medical AI products by combining access to M3’s extensive physician network in Japan with medical imaging IT capabilities. The partnership could provide Coreline Soft with a platform to introduce additional AVIEW products to Japanese medical institutions over time.

Japan’s Extensive CT Infrastructure Creates Opportunity

Japan represents a particularly relevant market for medical imaging AI because of its extensive installed base of CT scanners.

The country has one of the highest numbers of CT scanners per capita among OECD members, providing a large volume of existing medical imaging data to which AI technologies can potentially be applied without requiring new imaging infrastructure.

Changes in lung cancer screening policy could further expand opportunities. Japan has been moving toward wider use of low-dose CT, or LDCT, for high-risk smokers, with demonstration projects underway in selected municipalities in 2026.

Cardiovascular disease also represents a significant health burden in Japan. Heart disease is among the country’s leading causes of death, making the ability to identify coronary artery calcification from existing chest CT scans potentially relevant for cardiovascular risk assessment.

The combination of extensive CT utilization and an aging population creates a market environment where extracting additional clinical information from scans already being performed could become increasingly valuable.

From Lung Cancer AI to a Chest CT Platform

Competition in medical imaging AI is also evolving beyond the accuracy of individual disease-detection algorithms.

Chest CT images can contain information related to multiple conditions and risk factors, including lung nodules, emphysema, interstitial lung disease and coronary artery calcification. This creates an opportunity for AI companies to move from selling separate disease-specific applications toward providing multiple analytical functions within the same imaging workflow.

Coreline Soft describes this approach as “One CT, Multi-Disease.”

The strategy is designed to expand the role of AI from detecting lung nodules to extracting a broader range of clinical information from a single chest CT examination.

With regulatory approval for its proprietary lung nodule solution and the rollout of AVIEW CAC, the company is beginning to apply that strategy more broadly in Japan.

“Following the recent PMDA approval of our lung nodule detection solution, which established a regulatory foundation for our proprietary product in Japan, we are now expanding our Japanese portfolio with AVIEW CAC,” Coreline Soft CEO Kim Jin-kook said.

“Japan is one of the world’s most active markets for CT utilization, and we plan to gradually expand our strategy of providing diverse clinical information, ranging from lung disease to cardiovascular risk, from a single chest CT scan,” he added.
