CT-P73 joins CT-P70 and CT-P71 in receiving FDA Fast Track status
Company plans flexible commercialization strategy combining in-house development and licensing deals

Celltrion said on Aug. 13 that its antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) candidate CT-P73 has received Fast Track designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), bringing all three of the company’s clinical-stage ADC candidates under the expedited development program.

The designation covers CT-P73 for the treatment of patients with recurrent or metastatic cervical cancer who have previously received platinum-based chemotherapy.

With the latest decision, Celltrion’s CT-P70, CT-P71 and CT-P73, all currently in Phase 1 clinical development, have received FDA Fast Track designation. The three ADC candidates target c-MET, Nectin-4 and Tissue Factor, respectively.

The FDA’s Fast Track program is designed to facilitate the development and accelerate the review of therapies for serious conditions with significant unmet medical needs.

Fast Track designation allows drug developers to communicate more frequently with the FDA on clinical trial design and regulatory strategy. Eligible candidates may also qualify for Rolling Review, which allows completed portions of a regulatory application to be submitted and reviewed before the full application is completed. Fast Track drugs may also become eligible for Priority Review or Accelerated Approval if relevant requirements are met.

For Celltrion, securing Fast Track status for its entire clinical-stage ADC portfolio provides more than a potential regulatory advantage. It also gives the company greater flexibility in deciding how individual drug candidates will ultimately be commercialized.

Celltrion plans to evaluate clinical data, competitive positioning and market potential for each ADC candidate before determining its commercialization strategy.

Candidates demonstrating strong global competitiveness could be developed and commercialized directly by Celltrion, allowing the company to build them into long-term sources of new drug revenue.

For other candidates where partnerships offer greater strategic value, Celltrion may pursue licensing agreements with global pharmaceutical companies, generating upfront payments, development and regulatory milestones, and potentially other licensing revenue.

The approach represents a shift away from applying the same development strategy to every pipeline asset. Instead, Celltrion plans to allocate investment and determine commercialization routes according to the clinical performance and business potential of individual candidates.

CT-P73, the latest candidate to receive Fast Track designation, is an ADC targeting Tissue Factor, which is overexpressed in cervical cancer and a range of other solid tumors.

According to Celltrion, preclinical studies showed that CT-P73 demonstrated antitumor activity comparable or superior to tisotumab vedotin, an existing Tissue Factor-targeting therapy, while also showing an improved safety profile.

The company is developing CT-P73 as a potential next-generation treatment option for patients with recurrent or metastatic cervical cancer, an area where additional treatment options remain needed.

ADC technology combines the tumor-targeting properties of antibodies with potent cytotoxic payloads, allowing drugs to deliver cancer-killing agents more selectively to tumor cells. The field has become one of the most competitive areas of oncology drug development as global pharmaceutical companies invest heavily in new ADC platforms and candidates.

Attention will now turn to clinical data from Celltrion’s three ADC programs.

Two of the candidates are expected to complete Part 1 of their Phase 1 trials by the end of 2026, with top-line results scheduled to be released sequentially from the first half of 2027. The company also plans to move rapidly into Part 2 for dose optimization.

CT-P70, currently the most advanced of the three programs, is targeting entry into Phase 1 Part 2 in March 2027.

As early clinical results become available, Celltrion is expected to gain a clearer basis for deciding which ADC assets should be taken through global commercialization internally and which could generate greater value through partnerships or licensing deals.

The company is also expanding its novel drug pipeline beyond ADCs. Celltrion plans to apply for FDA Fast Track designation for CT-P72, a multispecific antibody-based drug candidate, by the end of this year.

The strategy is part of Celltrion’s broader effort to develop innovative drugs as a new growth engine alongside its established biosimilar business. The company’s global commercial infrastructure could provide an advantage for candidates selected for direct commercialization, while licensing transactions could allow other pipeline assets to generate revenue before reaching the market.

“With all three of our clinical-stage ADC candidates now designated for Fast Track, we have established a foundation for improving development efficiency through closer communication with the FDA,” a Celltrion official said.

“We will carefully assess clinical data and market potential and strategically determine whether to pursue direct development and commercialization or licensing for each candidate, with the goal of maximizing both long-term value and opportunities for earlier monetization.”

With initial clinical data from its ADC portfolio expected to emerge from 2027, the next key test will be whether Celltrion can translate its expanding novel drug pipeline into commercially competitive assets and establish innovative medicines as a meaningful growth pillar alongside biosimilars.
