CG Bio has secured a key regulatory milestone in its expansion into the U.S. medical device market, obtaining FDA clearance for its patient-specific titanium implant designed for cranial and craniofacial reconstruction.
Tthe company recently received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its “EASYMADE TI” implant. The 510(k) process is a critical premarket approval pathway that requires manufacturers to demonstrate substantial equivalence to existing legally marketed devices.
The approval marks the first case of a Korean company receiving FDA clearance for a patient-specific titanium implant intended for the U.S. market, highlighting both its technological capabilities and regulatory expertise.
EASYMADE TI is designed using patient CT data to create customized implants tailored to individual anatomical structures. The product is manufactured using medical-grade titanium alloy and produced through laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), a metal 3D printing technology that enables high precision and customization.
The company has also developed a streamlined supply process aimed at clinical efficiency. U.S.-based medical teams can submit patient imaging data, after which CG Bio’s design center in Korea produces the customized implant and delivers it to hospitals within approximately five days. Following sterilization, the implant can be used immediately in surgical procedures.
The timing of the approval aligns with growing demand in the U.S. reconstruction market. Procedures related to trauma, tumor resection, and decompressive craniectomy continue to increase, driving interest in patient-specific solutions that can improve surgical outcomes and recovery.
Industry experts note that customized implants are gaining traction due to their ability to address patient-specific conditions more effectively than standard devices. “In reconstruction surgery, requirements vary significantly by patient, making customization a critical factor,” said an industry official. “Companies that combine precision design with rapid delivery are likely to gain a competitive edge.”
CG Bio plans to leverage the FDA clearance to accelerate its presence in the U.S. market, focusing on cranial and craniofacial reconstruction segments while expanding its product portfolio. The company is also expected to pursue additional regulatory approvals to support global commercialization.
The development is seen as part of a broader trend in the medical device industry, where integrated capabilities in design, manufacturing, and delivery are becoming key differentiators. As demand for personalized healthcare solutions continues to rise, CG Bio’s latest milestone positions the company to compete more actively on the global stage.
