Identity verification service aims to reduce repeated document checks across MiniPay’s regulated partner network

Sumsub launched its Reusable KYC Gateway in Singapore on October 7 at TOKEN2049, with Opera’s self-custodial stablecoin wallet MiniPay as its first live integrator. The service allows users to reuse a verified identity when accessing regulated services within MiniPay’s partner network, reducing the need for repeated document uploads and selfie checks.

According to Sumsub, MiniPay partners adopting the approach have seen verification conversion increase from approximately 70% to 95%, while KYC completion time has fallen by up to 50%. The announcement did not specify the measurement period or sample size behind those figures.

MiniPay operates in more than 70 countries and has recorded over 20 million wallet openings. Its partners, including fiat on- and off-ramp providers, card issuers and payment companies, have traditionally conducted separate know-your-customer checks. This can require users to submit the same identity documents each time they access a new service within the wallet’s ecosystem.

The gateway enables users to access an existing Sumsub ID or complete an initial verification using an identity document and a selfie. Sumsub said its platform has 15 million existing Sumsub IDs. Users then explicitly consent to link their verified identity to their MiniPay account.

When accessing a regulated partner for the first time, users consent to share their verified identity with that provider. Sumsub transfers the information directly to the partner, allowing MiniPay to facilitate access without collecting, storing or handling identity documents or biometric data.

Identity reuse does not remove each partner’s compliance responsibilities. Partners continue to apply their own policies and checks, with additional verification required for higher-risk transactions. Eight MiniPay partners already use Sumsub for verification, according to the announcement.

“Repeated KYC checks across the same ecosystem are inconvenient for everyone, and one in three applicants we see have already verified with us before,” said Andrew Novoselsky, Chief Product Officer at Sumsub. He said the gateway allows MiniPay users to reuse a verified identity across the partner network while controlling what they share and with whom.

Murray Spark, Senior Director of Business Development at Opera, said user choice over identity sharing complements MiniPay’s self-custodial model, in which users hold their own funds.

“They decide what to share and with whom, and that matters more and more as our partner network expands across new markets,” Spark said.

Reusable KYC Gateway joins Sumsub’s existing Reusable KYC product line, which also includes Reusable KYC Share. The company said the gateway is available to non-regulated businesses connecting users with regulated partners, including non-custodial wallets and decentralized trading platforms.
