Futurenuri, a Korea-based IT solutions provider, is expanding its digital library platforms as libraries and academic institutions worldwide accelerate their adoption of AI-driven systems. The company has focused on integrating artificial intelligence into digital library infrastructure amid broader shifts in knowledge management and information retrieval.
Founded more than three decades ago, Futurenuri develops digital library systems, academic portals, and education management platforms. According to the company, its solutions are currently deployed across approximately 800 institutions, including universities, public agencies, and education-related organizations. The firm reports that its digital library and education systems are in use in 19 countries.
Futurenuri’s core offerings include a digital library platform and an Intelligent Library Service Platform (ILSP), designed to manage both physical and electronic resources within a unified system. The platform is built on cloud-based infrastructure and a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, with API integration enabling interoperability with external databases and institutional systems. AI-based search, data analytics, and natural language processing are applied to improve information discovery and recommendation functions.
The company provides infrastructure that supports integrated search, metadata management, and external database connectivity, including links to national and academic information services. In this segment, Futurenuri operates alongside global digital content and library system providers such as OverDrive, Scribd, Ex Libris, and EBSCO, while focusing on system integration and localized service deployment.
As libraries adapt to changes brought by artificial intelligence, traditional library operations are increasingly shifting toward automated knowledge acquisition, management, and retrieval. Futurenuri has stated that it is adjusting its service strategy to address these changes, particularly in preparation for more advanced AI environments.
Among its systems, the company offers the Triple-U Library Information Platform (TULIP), an academic information portal developed in compliance with international standards such as Unicode, XML, MARC, and MODS. The platform is designed to support deployment across different languages, regions, and library types. Another system, ILUS (Integrated Library Utility to Supreme), applies a workflow-based architecture that allows multiple libraries of different sizes to operate on a single system while maintaining distinct operational processes.
TULIP+ extends these capabilities into a cloud-native environment, combining print and electronic resource management with portal services and other library functions under a SaaS-based framework.
More recently, Futurenuri has introduced AI inference technologies using small language models (SLMs) and agentic retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). At its User Conference 2025, the company presented a new AI service platform, tentatively named Futurenuri.ai, which it described as optimized for library environments. The platform is intended to reduce computational costs and resource consumption compared with large language models while maintaining response accuracy.
The company reported that it conducted fine-tuning on multiple SLMs, including Korean-language and global models, in collaboration with an external academic research team. Futurenuri indicated that these AI technologies may be applied not only within library and education services but also across additional business areas as part of a broader expansion strategy.
Looking ahead, Futurenuri plans to incorporate technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and virtual environments into digital libraries and online evaluation systems. Based on its experience in digital libraries, learning management systems, and online assessment platforms, the company aims to expand its international presence beyond its current markets, with additional overseas deployments targeted from 2026.
