China’s venture capital market showed a sharp rebound in the first four months of 2026, with both deal volume and funding value rising strongly from a year earlier, according to GlobalData.
The number of VC deals announced in China increased 60% year-on-year during January-April 2026, while total funding value jumped 206%. The figures suggest that investor activity has recovered from last year’s weaker base, although China’s share of global VC value remains well below that of the US.
Aurojyoti Bose, lead analyst at GlobalData, said China’s VC market is seeing “a synchronized rebound,” with more transactions and larger funding value pointing to improved investor sentiment and stronger risk appetite.
China ranked as the world’s second-largest VC market by both deal volume and funding value during the period. It accounted for 24% of global VC deals, but only 7% of global VC funding value. The gap indicates that China’s funding recovery has been broad in activity, but still smaller in average deal size compared with the US, where mega-rounds continue to dominate.
GlobalData said China’s funding value growth outpaced the global average, which rose 151% year-on-year. The country also exceeded the UK’s 114% increase and India’s 22.2% growth, while surpassing the US growth rate of 178%.
The contrast was also visible in deal volume. The US recorded only a 1% year-on-year increase in VC deal count during January-April, while the UK and India declined 2% and 7%, respectively. Against this backdrop, China’s 60% rise points to a broader acceleration across its startup funding pipeline.
Still, the US retained a dominant 80% share of global VC funding value, underlining the continued concentration of capital in the world’s largest venture market. China’s rebound therefore reflects renewed momentum rather than a full shift in global capital leadership.
Bose said the data points to two parallel trends: wider participation across more startups and sectors, and a stronger willingness to place larger bets in high-conviction areas.
GlobalData noted that historical figures may change if additional deals are disclosed later for previous months
